Liebherr LB 28 - Kurt Motz

A Liebherr LB 28 drilling rig of Kurt Motz from Illertissen (DE).

The rig was used on the same construction site where the Liebherr LRB 125 was also standing. This drilling rig was used to make piles for a cleaning station of sewage. The rig weights almost 100 tonnes and is able to make piles up to 70 meters depth.

On the leader are three winches made, a hoist winch, a help winch and a pull-down winch. With the pull-down winch is the rotary head so-called along the leader pulled into the ground when the ground is ginving to much friction.

The rig was set-up with a kelly drilling system. This is a ground removing drilling method where at the ground is transported upwards and removed. With help of the drill is a hole in the ground drilled, that is after drilling filled with rebar and concrete. The max. pile diameter is 2,500 mm.

The undercarriage is 5.9 meters long and 4.7 meters wide.

In the rig is laying a Liebherr D 846 A7 engine with 469 HP. With them are two bigger and one smaller hydropumps driven.

Totally is hanging 15.3 tonnes of counterweight on the rig, that will be removed during transport over the road.

The leader has an overall length of about 25 meters, longer is not necessary because the rig is only used for drilling.

This rig can drill holes 5 degrees forwards and 15 degrees backwards. The sideway adjustment is 5 degrees. With this rig it is only possible to drill, a use with hammer or vibrator is not possible.
