Lifting of beams by Bok Seng

For the installation of heavy beams for bridges for a new ring road in the north of Singapore (SG), Bok Seng from Singapore (SG) deployed its Kobelco SL6000 and Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1. In an earlier phase of this project, Bok Seng had also deployed heavy cranes.

The beams were picked up by the Kobelco, which was erected on the far side, at a large radius. The Liebherr handles the short side. Bok Seng also transported several beams to the construction site.

Compared with the previous occasion, these beams are somewhat shorter and lighter. These beams are 33 metres long and weigh 105.1 tonnes each. The first beam is now suspended in the cranes and is being brought to the bearings.

The Kobelco picks up the beam at a radius of approximately 54 metres, the Liebherr at approximately 21 metres.

Each crane lifts approximately 58 tonnes in total; in order to pick up the beam at a large radius, 190 tonnes of superlift ballast are required for the Kobelco. As the radius becomes shorter, the superlift can be disconnected again so that the crane can slew.

The Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 is erected with 165 tonnes of ballast and has telescoped the main boom to a length of 36.9 metres.

The Kobelco is erected with a 66-metre main boom. The radius is now clearly smaller and the superlift ballast is disconnected again. Then the first beam can be placed on the bearings.

Quickly on to the second beam, which was delivered by Asiagroup.

In Singapore, the installation of beams usually takes place at night because roads often have to be closed in order to erect the crane. In this case, everything took place within the construction site.

The outrigger base of the LTM 1500-8.1 measures 10 x 9.6 metres.

The carrier is 11.49 metres long and 9.9 metres wide. A total of 50 tonnes of central ballast is mounted on the carrier, 25 tonnes per side.

The third and last beam of that day was delivered by the Scania of Bok Seng. The beam is transported on two 6-axle modules with turntables.

The Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 places the beams at approximately 21 metres radius, the Kobelco SL6000 at approximately 21.8 metres radius.

The supply of beams is limited to three beams per day; the next day, the cranes will install the next three beams. The cranes are parked for rest.

Once again, a fine operation by Bok Seng!
